Special Projects

Ask us about our programs that support young readers, at-risk youth and provide French-language outreach.

WordFest strives to create meaningful partnerships with its supporters and is very proud of the following customized initiatives:

Word Travels!

In partnership with Encana, WordFest hit the road for the first time in 2010, bringing a select group of authors to enthusiastic audiences in Fort Nelson, BC. Encana understands that access to diverse and interactive literary programming is sometimes difficult in rural communities. WordFest Fort Nelson proved to be a wonderful way for Encana to show its support for vibrant and sustainable communities.

TransCanada Reads:

Launched in 2008, TransCanada Reads encourages employees to share the experience of reading a designated book by a featured WordFest writer. In 2010 participants read Jack Hodgins’ novel The Master of Happy Endings. Calgary readers enjoyed a private event featuring a reception, reading and interview. WebEx technology broadcast this event extending the outreach to TransCanada employees across North America and effectively transforming the individual act of reading into a shared and companywide experience.

AltaLink “KidLink” Contest:

Each year, AltaLink offers a contest for all of its employees for a chance to win tickets for one of their children or grandchildren and their class to participate in the Book Rapport Program at WordFest. The contest winner and their child are invited to host the event together—an incredible experience for the employee, child and class alike.
