Position Title: Book Rapport/Festival des mots Manager (bilingual position)

Job Description: The Book Rapport/Festival des mots Manager develops and administers the youth and the French programs of WordFest. This is a bilingual, full-time, permanent position.

 

The ideal candidate demonstrates:

  • Superior negotiating, problem solving, planning, priority setting and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication in both official languages
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, knowledge of FileMaker and Tessitura an asset
  • Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Appreciation and strong knowledge of youth and French literature; knowledge of the educational and Francophone communities in Calgary and the Bow Valley
  • Ability to motivate others, work independently and as part of a team in an open office environment

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Developing Festival program and schedules in conjunction with Director and Artistic Associate
  • Liaising with confirmed artists and their publishers
  • Collaborating with and providing information to stakeholders in the educational and Francophone communities
  • Provide content for websites and social media and ensure sites are maintained
  • Managing special projects or events, defined by the Director
  • Managing and maintaining databases (Tessitura, FileMaker and Excel)
  • Managing school bookings (registrations, invoicing, tracking, receipting, etc.)
  • Collaborating with program partners and sponsors as per agreements
  • Managing all Book Rapport and Festival des mots seasonal personnel
  • Collaborating with the Marketing Department to implement marketing campaigns
  • Managing the development of support materials for educators
  • Working with the Volunteer Manager to recruit and train any volunteers
  • Working closely with Box Office Manager and Accounting to ensure accurate box office reporting and analysis
  • Providing an annual strategic plan and comprehensive final report to the Director
  • Represent WordFest in the community where appropriate and be available outside-of-office hours

Please note that the following positions are contingent upon funding and available only to those students returning to school in the fall semester.  Applicant must be a full-time student during the 2011-2012 academic year, and must intend to return to school on a full-time basis in 2012-2013.

 

Position Title: Webmaster

Job Description: This position provides an excellent opportunity for a student to work with industry professionals, build their portfolio, be creative and gain experience in Canada’s arts and culture sector.

Working with the Marketing Manager, Book Rapport Manager, WordFest graphic designer and sponsor web development company Lexi.net, the website coordinator will:

  •     Manage content and update all author and event information for the Festival’s websites (wordfest.com,bookrapport.com and festivaldesmots.ca )
  •     Design e-marketing materials, including flyers and invitations
  •     Create and manage the WordFest monthly e-newsletter
  •     Design online ads for major media outlets as required
  •     Design and produce print pieces for WordFest and Book Rapport, including: two brochures, event handbills, posters, teacher resource guides and other print materials as needed

Qualifications: University or college student in one of the following areas: visual design, communication design, fine arts or multimedia with a concentration in web design.

Soft Skills

  •     Ability to think creatively and communicate effectively
  •     Ability to juggle multiple projects and prioritize workload
  •     Ability to independently problem solve and troubleshoot as well as work well in a team environment

Technical Skills

  •     Advanced knowledge or proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver.
  •     Knowledge of content management systems an asset (WordFest uses Joomla and WordPress)
  •     Familiarity of Google Analytics
  •     Effective understanding and engagement in latest trends in visual communication, web design and social media
  •     Basic understanding of Flash and Database Management
  •     Experience with online blog tools and basic usage of RSS feeds an asset
  •     Above average writing and editing skills

Supervision: This position is under the direct supervision of the Marketing Manager. The Webmaster receives ongoing training, feedback and performance reviews.

Position Title: Marketing Assistant

Job Description: The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of marketing and communications functions including: event planning, copywriting, promotions and target marketing. The Marketing Assistant must be flexible, proactive, detail-oriented and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications:

The candidate should be a post-secondary student with an interest and concentration in marketing, communications, event management, public relations and/or journalism. The candidate should have:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to jump in
  • Excellent oral communication skills
  • Comfortable working in Microsoft Office, knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite an asset

Event planning:

  •     Management and coordination of WordFest Media Launch Party in August
  •     Management and coordination of WordFest Opening Night Gala during the Festival
  •     Management and coordination of WordFest presence at community festivals

Copywriting:

  •     Writing articles for WordFest’s monthly e-newsletter, The Latest Word
  •     Copywriting and editing for electronic and print marketing materials
  •     Writing and editing artist biographies
  •     Writing public service announcements and press releases
  •     Ensure consistency for WordFest branding and messaging

Promotions:

  •     Maintain the Festival’s social media feeds (Twitter, Facebook)
  •     Coordinate and implement distribution strategy for marketing materials
  •     Design promotions for special interest groups, local businesses and other arts organizations
  •     Identify possible partnerships and cross-promotional opportunities
  •     Coordinate promotion of WordFest at community events

Target Marketing:

  •     Create and implement target marketing strategy
  •     Update and maintain media contact lists and databases

Position Title: Fund Development Assistant

Job Description:  Working with the Resource Development Manager, the successful candidate will assist in the stewardship of sponsors and donors, identifying and liaising with potential sponsors and stakeholders and assist in the production and distribution of fund development communication materials. The Fund Development Assistant must be flexible, result-driven, proactive and detail-oriented.

This position will assist in:

  •     Identifying new sponsors
  •     Identifying and approaching community sponsors and partners
  •     Stewardship of sponsors and donors
  •     Coordinating sponsor benefits
  •     Executing sponsor recognition program
  •     Planning of an annual fundraising event
  •     Planning of sponsor receptions
  •     Production of sponsor boards
  •     Procuring of in-kind donations
  •     Maintaining sponsorship databases and files
  •     Management and coordination of the ad sales for the Festival Guide
  •     Various marketing and fund development tasks as required

Qualifications:

University or college student with an interest in fund development and non-profit management.

  •     Excellent written and oral communication skills
  •     Organization and Flexibility required
  •     Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel
  •     Knowledge of Filemaker, Access and Adobe CS software an asset
