WordFest and carte blanche invite writers to submit non-fiction entries for 2012 Festival

(August 7, 2012 – Calgary, AB) WordFest presents This Really Happened, an interactive storytelling event, on October 9, 2012. Presented in partnership with the literary magazine carte blanche, This Really Happened calls on emerging writers to submit their stories of family ties and personal attachment for the chance to be showcased in this event as part of the 17th annual WordFest, which runs from October 9-14, 2012.

Artists and community members are invited to submit a nonfiction story based on the theme of family ties. Applicants are welcome to share true stories of attachment, both figurative and literal.

“Everyone has a story to tell and WordFest is thrilled to be partnering with carte-blanche on a live storytelling event. WordFest believes in the transformative power of story; and the need for narrative in our lives” said Jo Steffens, Executive Director for WordFest.

Selected stories will be told on Tuesday, October 9 at 8pm at The Auburn (163 9 Avenue SE,Calgary). Tickets are $8 and will go on sale after the festival Launch on August 29. Visit wordfest.com for event and box office information.

To submit a story, applicants should include a brief personal description and an outline of their story. Selections will lean towards stories with a well-developed narrative with insight. Please send applications to trh@carte-blanche.org by September 3, 2012.
