Biography

Suzette Mayr (CAN) is a Calgary-based novelist. She was the former Canadian Writer-in-Residence at the University of Calgary and the former president of The Writers Guild of Alberta. Her book The Widows was a finalist for the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best Book in the Canada-Caribbean region. Her latest novel is Monoceros, an off-kilter look at the aftermath of a gay teenager’s suicide at a Catholic high school, something the Globe and Mail has called ‘one of the most imaginative, quirky and emotionally devastating novels I’ve read in a long while.’ WordFest alumna 1998, 2002, 2004
